3🔍 Why it matters — what to watch for
While the target man holds it, the whole team gets time to push up. What to watch: a good one feels the defender with an arm, cushions the first touch, keeps their body between ball and opponent — then lays it off to a supporting midfielder, or turns if there's room. Unglamorous, but a side with a forward who holds the ball attacks with stability — “it sticks” or “it doesn't” is a common pundit yardstick.
