“Time you ‘had’ the ball — but having it doesn't mean winning.”

62% Possession Share of time in possession. But ‘more possession = winning’ isn't always true — that's the fun. (some teams let you have it)

3🔍 Why it matters — what to watch for

The most famous stat, yet many teams want lower possession by design (counter-attackers). “65% possession and a loss” isn't rare. Read it with xG to tell “forced to hold it” from “pushing forward.”

On broadcasts you'll see“Possession 68–32, but the away side had more shots. The plan is to counter.”
