“15 shots, 0 goals” can be fair if all were long-range — total xG under 1. xG shows the substance a scoreline hides: “xG 2.8, 0 goals” means poor finishing; “xG 0.3, 2 goals” means overachieving.

On broadcasts you'll see“Shots are level, but xG is 2.1 to 0.4 — the home side dominate chance quality.”
